Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

We have a long track record of delivering high quality training provision for teaching assistants through this programme.

Working in partnership with David Fulton Publishers, our lead assessor for the HLTA provision is Dr. Anne Watkinson, recognised author of books for teaching assistants e.g. ' The essential guide for Competent teaching assistants' and 'The essential guide for experienced teaching assistants'

Granada Learning seek to ensure that HLTA candidates receive their training at a high quality and convenient location. We will run our courses frequently each term and at a large range of locations to minimise the amount of travelling required; delivered during school time aiming to avoid the busy times during a term. Courses start at 9.30 and finish at 3.30.

The preparation route comprises 3 days of training plus a half-day in-school assessment. Day 1 and Day 2 take place within the first two weeks of the course duration, with Day 3 following on within a term.

The training is completed with an in-school Assessment by the regional provider for HLTA assessment (RPA)

The preparation route is available to experienced Teaching Assistants, with some whole-class management experience, who are already very close to meeting the HLTA standards.

Day 1 Focuses on getting used to the HLTA standards and relating these back to the work that is carried out in school.

Day 2 Explores the tasks required for the assessment of the HLTA standards and prepares for starting the first three tasks.

Between Day 2 and 3, you have up to a term

to work on the tasks.

Day 3 you will work on matching the HLTA standards to your first three tasks and identify the focus for the fourth task to ensure that all the HLTA standards are covered.

All HLTA candidates will be assessed in school by one of 'VTFourS' accredited assessors.

Following 3 Day preparation

Assessment must be completed within 12 weeks from the end of Day 3 of preparation.

• Following Day 3 candidates have four school working weeks (20 days) to complete and submit their assessment tasks

• Candidates can expect their school visit to be within 6 – 8 weeks from Day 3 of preparation

• Assessors will have sufficient time to scrutinize the assessment tasks and prepare for the school visit
