Cessation of nferNelson

31st December 2007– NFER and Granada Learning today announced that their formal relationship in respect of nferNelson will end on 31 December 2007. From that date the two companies will pursue their interests in assessment without a formal relationship. NFER will continue as an independent organisation undertaking research in assessment and other areas of education. Granada Learning will now offer its nferNelson assessment products and services under the new name of GL Assessment.

The relationship between NFER and nferNelson has been mutually beneficial and successful. However, NFER is an educational charity and the trustees have decided not to continue an exclusive relationship with a company which it does not own. It has now been mutually agreed to end this formal relationship in the belief that this will allow both Granada Learning and NFER greater flexibility for the future. Notwithstanding this change both organisations will continue to co-operate on current and future individual projects.

Notes

  1. nferNelson was founded in 1980 as a joint venture of NFER and Thomas Nelson publishers in order to provide tests to schools and offer assessment services. In 2000, the two original partners sold the company to Granada Learning, which has continued to operate nferNelson until the present.
  2. The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is an independent educational research organisation with charitable status. It undertakes research projects in education and children’s services under contract and utilising its own resources. Its work spans all sectors of education and an important element is assessment research. More details can be found at www.nfer.ac.uk
  3. Granada Learning provides resources for the full spectrum of teaching and learning. It develops and publishes online and paper-based assessments, curriculum software, school management tools, learning platforms, professional development materials and resources for children with special educational needs. These are used in all sectors of the market from nurseries, primary and secondary schools through to colleges and universities.
