April 2009 GL Assessment launches new test series to check spelling is on track 23 April 2009 – GL Assessment has today published a new edition of its well- established spelling test series, the British Spelling Test Series 2 (BSTS2) for 6 to 13 year olds. The new edition is designed to play an important role in checking that spelling attainment is on track, supporting teachers in their own assessment of their pupils’ attainment and highlighting where additional support is needed for those pupils for whom spelling is especially difficult.
March 2009 GL Assessment personalises literacy with Metametrics' Lexile Framework for Reading 30 March 2009 – GL Assessment, in partnership with MetaMetrics®, Inc., is bringing The Lexile Framework® for Reading to the UK with the enhancement to its Progress in English (PIE) assessment for seven to 11 year olds. Highly successful in the US for boosting children’s achievement in literacy, the Lexile Framework allows for more detailed grading of text than a reading age or key stage level indicators that are widely used by schools and publishers today. The 400,000 UK children who currently take PIE tests each year will be able to benefit from the Lexile Framework straight away.
New test launched to boost primary reading and comprehension: The York Asssessment of Reading for Comprehension 5 March 2009 - GL Assessment has unveiled a new suite of standardised, paper-based reading assessments for use in primary schools. The York Assessment of Reading for Comprehension (YARC) is designed to support schools in monitoring children’s development of key literacy skills from ages four to 11. Developed in partnership with experts in reading at the University of York, the assessments enable teachers to assess young readers’ phonic and alphabetic skills and track the progress of children’s reading and reading comprehension across the primary years.
January 2009 Secondary heads free to share responsibility for school improvement 13 January 2009 - The Skills Factory will unveil a new version of its highly successful online school self-evaluation system, schoolcentre.net, on stand C50 at BETT 2009. The new edition contains the Departmental SEF feature, a tool that enables individual departments of a school to complete Part A (the Evaluation questions) of the Ofsted Self Evaluation Form (SEF) relating to their specific department.

December 2008 GL Assessment's Dyslexia Portfolio is a must for teachers and SENCOs 01 December 2008 - GL Assessment has today unveiled the Dyslexia Portfolio, a series of short diagnostic and attainment tests that is set to transform the way children with dyslexia are assessed and then supported in the classroom. Authored by Martin Turner, the Dyslexia Portfolio provides a comprehensive profile of a pupil who is experiencing difficulties in literacy learning or is giving cause for concern that he or she may be dyslexic. It is the third publication in GL Assessment’s popular dyslexia series, after the Dyslexia Screener and Dyslexia Guidance.

April 2008 GL Assessment announces partnership with Usborne to boost children's literacy 14 April 2008 - GL Assessment has announced a partnership with leading children's publisher, Usborne. The agreement will see a wide range of popular Usborne books published with a new type of classification, called a Lexile measure, clearly visible on the cover. The Lexile Framework for Reading™ is set to become a new benchmark for assessing children's books as it allows for a more detailed grading of text difficulty than the standard reading age or Key Stage levels that are widely used by schools and publishers today.
March 2008 SEMERC’S A Busy Day wins Education Resources Award 1 March 2008 - SEMERC’s A Busy Day has won the award for the Best Special Education Resource Involving ICT at the Education Resources Awards (ERA) 2008. The win was announced at a gala dinner held in Birmingham on 29 February.
