January 2012

GL Performance partners with ASCL to support schools with the new Ofsted inspection framework

16 January 2012 - GL Performance, the division of the Granada Learning Group that is dedicated to self-evaluation and school improvement, has partnered with the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) to support schools in their preparation for the new style of Ofsted inspections. The partnership will enable school leaders to improve communications with stakeholders and to develop effective self-evaluation processes, both of which are key areas within the new inspection framework.

GL Assessment unveils the British Ability Scales: Third Edition

14 December 2011 - GL Assessment has today published the third edition of the internationally renowned British Ability Scales (BAS), an established standardised battery of tests designed to assess a child's cognitive ability and educational achievement. Originally published in the 1970s, the assessment has a long tradition of use in both practice and research by educational and clinical psychologists, providing a comprehensive and flexible means of assessing different aspects of a child’s current intellectual functioning across the age range of three years to 17 years 11 months.

 

GL Assessment publishes Sandwell Early Numeracy Test to identify young children's ability with numbers

5 December 2011 - GL Assessment has today published the Sandwell Early Numeracy Test – Revised (SENT-R), an assessment that enables practitioners to assess children’s ability with numbers. Designed for use with children from ages 4 years – 7 years 11 months, SENT-R explores five strands of basic numeracy skills: identification, oral counting, value, object counting and language, and provides a baseline of a pupil’s number skills. It is particularly useful in helping to identify targets for pupils with Special Educational Needs and it can also be used with Key Stage 2 pupils with numeracy difficulties.

Granada Learning Group and ASCL partnership lays the foundation for successful school self-evaluation

6 September 2011 – The Granada Learning Group has today announced that it has entered into a new premier partnership agreement with the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), the only professional association and trade union to speak exclusively for secondary school and college leaders in the UK.

Research finds nearly half of all secondary school pupils with reading difficulties are not on SEN Register

28 June 2011 -Dr Sue Stothard, from the Centre for Reading and Language at the University of York, will today unveil findings of a study into reading comprehension. Speaking at the Westminster Education Forum Keynote Seminar: "The review of the Primary National Curriculum and proposals to reform the Early Years Foundation Stage", Dr Stothard will discuss the variance in reading ability across the school system and will argue that the findings show that there are problems with the current process of identifying pupils with reading difficulties within primary and secondary schools in England.

GL Assessment’s response to the Review of Key Stage 2 testing, assessment and accountability

23 June 2011 -GL Assessment welcomes Lord Bew’s final report on Key Stage 2 testing, assessment and accountability, particularly in light of the greater focus on pupils’ progress within the accountability system and the stated importance of effective benchmarking.

7 June 2011 – The Granada Learning Group announced today that it has partnered with Cambridge-based Hyperspheric Solutions to supply GO 4 Schools as part of its growing suite of highly-regarded school improvement products.

GL Assessment announces affinity partnership with NAHT

6 June 2011 - Independent test publisher, GL Assessment, has today announced that it has entered into an affinity partnership with the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT). The partnership will enable all NAHT members to benefit from three exclusive assessment packages that have been designed for use across Primary and Secondary.

GL Assessment launches online version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale

20 May 2011 – GL Assessment has today published an online version of the widely-used Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) – a self-administered questionnaire that measures depression and generalised anxiety in and outside hospital and community settings.

GL Assessment publishes new edition of the Reynell Developmental Language Scales

15 April 2011 – GL Assessment has today published a new, fourth edition of a widely-used assessment for identifying speech and language delay and impairment in very young children. Designed for administration by speech and language therapists, the New Reynell Developmental Language Scales (NRDLS) has been revised, improved and newly standardised on more than 1,200 children aged 2 years to 7 years 5 months in the UK.

GL Performance - a new division of the Granada Learning Group

12 January 2011 – The Granada Learning Group has today announced the creation of a new division within its Group of companies – GL Performance. This follows the acquisition of two companies by the Granada Learning Group in 2010. The products and services within GL Performance are designed to help school leadership teams maximise school improvement within their settings. The Granada Learning Group now consists of two divisions:

GL Performance and GL Assessment, its test and assessment division.

Call for more adequate SEN training at GL Assessment's Education Question Hour debate

8 December 2010 - Many issues relating to special educational needs (SEN) provision were debated at GL Assessment’s Education Question Hour at the recent Specialist Schools and Academies Trust National Conference. Entitled “The right support for the right child: reviewing SEN provision”, the debate saw panellists discuss a range of issues - from meeting the needs of pupils with SEN, teacher training and assessment to Government policy and funding.

Alan Campbell, Kirkland Rowell’s constituency MP, meets the Granada Learning Group

3 November 2010 - Representatives from the Granada Learning Group (including Kirkland Rowell and GL Assessment) recently met Alan Campbell, MP for Tynemouth. Kirkland Rowell – based in Mr Campbell’s constituency – is a provider of school stakeholder surveys and was acquired by the Granada Learning Group in April this year.

GL Assessment launches The New Group Reading Test:
an assessment of reading and comprehension in a single test

13 September 2010 – GL Assessment has today published the New Group Reading Test (NGRT) – the third edition of the widely used Group Reading Test. Developed by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), the NGRT is a comprehensive screening / monitoring test for groups of children.

GL Assessment Launches Single Measure For Identifying Clinically Significant Emotional Distress in Children

8 July 2010 – A staggering 1 in 10 children and young people aged 5 to 16 suffers from a diagnosable mental health disorder – that is around three in every classroom. It is widely accepted that most adult mental illness originates in childhood so it is essential that issues are detected and treated early to prevent them from escalating into more serious problems in later life.

26th March 2010 GL Assessment’s Dyslexia Portfolio was shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Best Special Educational Needs Resource – including ICT’ category of the Education Resources Awards (ERA) 2010. Designed for use with pupils from ages 6 to 16, the portfolio has transformed the way teachers and Sencos identify and provide support for children with dyslexia and literacy learning difficulties in the classroom.
