NEW BOOK OFFERS LANDMARK REVIEW OF ENGLISH EDUCATION

Today sees the launch of Excellence in Education: the making of great schools, a new book written by Sir Cyril Taylor, Chairman of the Specialist Schools Trust, and Conor Ryan, special adviser to David Blunkett, Secretary of State for Education and Skills, from 1997 to 2001.

 

LETTSREVISE.COM - NEW ONLINE REVISION AID LAUNCHES FOR KS3 AND GCSE STUDENTS

More than 40,000 GCSE students signed up for online revision aid LettsRevise.com last year. The site has now relaunched for 2005 exams with additional features to aid revision and a new section created especially for the Key Stage 3 SATs. The site, devised by Letts Educational, goes live today as revision for GCSE mocks gets under way in the winter term.

NASEN AND GRANADA LEARNING SIGN JOINT PUBLISHING AGREEMENT

The Granada Learning Group and NASEN have announced a new partnership in which all future NASEN books will be jointly published with David Fulton Publishers. The agreement will also provide NASEN members with significant discounts to special needs resources from across the Granada Learning Group. This includes special needs software specialists SEMERC and nferNelson, the leading UK provider of tests and assessments.

 

"SUPPORTING CHILDREN" SERIES LAUNCHED TO AID TEACHING OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL NEEDS IN MAINSTREAM SCHOOLS

A new eleven-book series to aid the teaching of children with a range of special needs has today been published by David Fulton Publishers in conjunction with Hull Learning Services. Written for special needs co-ordinators, teachers and teaching assistants, the Supporting Children series gathers together all the vital knowledge and practical support that both mainstream and specialist schools need to meet specific needs. The disabilities covered by the series include behaviour difficulties, Down's Syndrome, Cerebal Palsy, Epilepsy and Fragile X Syndrome.

SEMERC LAUNCHES NEW SERIES TO SUPPORT LITERACY IN THE INCLUSIVE CLASSROOM

The new Track series from special needs ICT publisher, SEMERC, is an innovative collection of CD-ROMs and workbooks that provide practical support for all pupils studying literacy at Key Stages 1 & 2, as well as learners of all ages with specific learning difficulties. Following the success of the first CD-ROM in the series, Spell Track, the other four programs in the series cover memorisation, the alphabet, visual perception and reading and writing skills.

NFERNELSON LAUNCHES MANUAL TO AID TEACHING OF DYSCALCULIC CHILDREN

A practical manual to help teachers support pupils with dyscalculia has today been published by nferNelson, the UK's leading independent provider of tests and assessments. Often called “number blindness”, dyscalculia is the inability to understand simple number concepts and mathematical procedures. It is thought to affect 5% of the UK population. NFERNELSON LAUNCHES DIGITAL SCREENER FOR DYSLEXIA IN 5 - 16 YEAR OLDS

Today sees the launch of a computer-based assessment that enables teachers to quickly and accurately identify pupils aged 5 – 16 with dyslexic tendencies. Dyslexia Screener fulfils the need of many teachers to have a screening test specifically for dyslexia that is easy to administer and generates instant scoring, analysis and advice. The program is fun and motivational for the test-taker, takes 40 minutes to administer and has been fully trialled and standardised according to national standards.

PAST PAPERS BRING EXAM SUCCESS FOR LECKIE & LECKIE

Scotland's leading educational publisher, Leckie & Leckie, has won the contract to publish the Scottish Qualifications Authority's (SQA) Past Examination Papers for a second three-year term. The St Andrews-based company has annually published Official SQA Past Paper titles since 2001 and is now set to do so until 2007.

 

NEW ONLINE TOOL FROM THE SKILLS FACTORY TRANSFORMS SCHOOL SELF-EVALUATION PROCESS

The Skills Factory has today launched an online tool that helps primary and secondary headteachers create their school improvement plans and share them with their staff, governors, parents and pupils.

LETTS EDUCATIONAL UNVEILS FIRST NATIONWIDE CINEMA ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN IN RUN-UP TO GCSE AND AS EXAMS

Running from 26 March to 15 April, the Give Yourself the Edge campaign invites students to use Letts' established revision guides for exam success and to check their progress via Letts' revision website – www.lettsrevise.com. The campaign will feature on 800 cinema screens across the UK and will coincide with the school Easter holidays (3 – 18 April), when typically, students are preparing for their GCSE and AS / A2 exams.
