Archived Press Releases 2005November 2005TEACHERS HAVE THEIR SAY IN THE NATIONAL SURVEY OF ONLINE LEARNING 4 November 2005 - With Personalising Learning high on the agenda for schools, Granada Learning and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) are working in partnership to find out teachers’ views on the subject. Today, Granada Learning and the SSAT will launch the National Survey of Personalising Learning - an online questionnaire that is designed to take a national picture of personalising learning, and to identify schools’ visions and aspirations for the future.
LECKIE & LECKIE UNVEILS NEW SQA PC PASSPORT SERIES The first of three new learning resources for the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s practical qualification, PC Passport, will be launched at SETT 2005. Published by Leckie & Leckie, Scotland’s leading educational publisher, the new PC Passport Course Notes and CD-ROM series is designed to help secondary students and employees improve their computer skills and prepare for the PC Passport examination. PC Passport is a Scottish Progression Award and receives full, appropriate credit through the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework. As such, it is recognised by employers, training providers and admissions staff.
NEW BLACKCAT PROGRAM TURNS TEACHERS INTO PROFESSIONAL ICT DESIGNERS Primary tools publisher, BlackCat, will today launch a new CD-ROM designed to help teachers create interactive whiteboard activities that look as professional as any pre-packaged content. Literacy Activity Builder enables teachers to create a range of Foundation Stage to Key Stage 2 Literacy activities (such as gap fill, multiple-choice, matching games and sorting) using a set of template-based tools. The program then automatically generates professional content, saving hours of preparation time and allowing teachers to meet their own class’ specific learning needs.

schoolcentre.net, an online portal designed by The Skills Factory to aid school improvement planning and effective self-evaluation, has added the new Ofsted Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) to its range of school management tools. Teachers can now cross-reference their SEF with their school development plan, action plan and improvement plan. Importantly, they can attach evidence, such as assessments, photographs and video files to support statements made in the SEF and as part of their action plans. Teachers can also insert actions against each SEF question, creating a direct and secure link between the SEF and their school improvement plan.
NORTH LIVERPOOL ACADEMY GIVEN THE GO AHEAD Plans for the North Liverpool Academy have been given final approval by the Secretary of State for Education, Ruth Kelly. The Academy will now move into the final phase of its development.
VICE PRINCIPAL JOINS NORTH LIVERPOOL ACADEMY The North Liverpool Academy has appointed John Rigby as its Vice Principal. Mr Rigby joins Kay Askew, the new Principal, in preparing for the Academy’s opening in September 2006. The Academy will be one of the largest in the UK with 1,750 pupils from the combined Anfield and Breckfield Comprehensives. It is set to bring about a significant improvement in secondary education in the area and will also benefit the local community through new educational and sporting facilities, as well as adult learning programmes.

LETTS LAUNCHES KEY STAGE 3 ONLINE ICT COURSE BETT 2005 (Granada Learning stand, E40 / F40) - Letts Educational, the UK's market leader in study and revision guides, is launching a new online course that contains everything teachers need to deliver Key Stage 3 (KS3) ICT.
