"Supporting Children" series launched to aid teaching of children with specific educational needs in mainstream schoolsA new eleven-book series to aid the teaching of children with a range of special needs has today been published by David Fulton Publishers in conjunction with Hull Learning Services. Written for special needs co-ordinators, teachers and teaching assistants, the Supporting Children series gathers together all the vital knowledge and practical support that both mainstream and specialist schools need to meet specific needs. The disabilities covered by the series include behaviour difficulties, Down's Syndrome, Cerebal Palsy, Epilepsy and Fragile X Syndrome.
Each book in the series describes a specific educational need, explains how it might present difficulties within the school setting at both primary and secondary levels and offers strategies to meet pupils' needs. The books also have a quick reference guide, templates and checklists to support good practice and useful addresses and websites. Photocopiable forms are provided to help save time.
Christopher Glennie, Publishing Director of David Fulton Publishers, comments: “Now that more children with SEN are being included in mainstream schools, teachers and teaching assistants need to understand how to meet their particular needs. These books contain all the information that busy practitioners need in a concise, at-a-glance format.”
Sue Biggs, a SEN consultant and previous Inclusion Co-ordinator in Hertfordshire, said: “These books embody a wealth of information and practical guidance. They will give teachers and teaching assistants the confidence to take on more pupils with special needs.”
