SEMERC launches new series to support literacy in the inclusive classroomThe new Track series from special needs ICT publisher, SEMERC, is an innovative collection of CD-ROMs and workbooks that provide practical support for all pupils studying literacy at Key Stages 1 & 2, as well as learners of all ages with specific learning difficulties. Following the success of the first CD-ROM in the series, Spell Track, the other four programs in the series cover memorisation, the alphabet, visual perception and reading and writing skills.
Laura Cryer, special needs publisher at SEMERC, comments: “The ability to hear and identify sounds, to understand the relationship between the letters of the written language and the sounds of spoken language, and to read text accurately are crucial to early reading success. The five different resources in the Track series aim to provide invaluable support to those learners who may encounter difficulties in mastering these skills, particularly as each resource focuses on developing a specific aspect of literacy.”
The Track series consists of the following five CD-ROMs:
Workbooks published by David Fulton Publishers are available to accompany Spell Track , Word Track and Phoneme Track, each with photocopiable extension activities that support the CD-ROMs.
A further title in the series – Number Track – will be available in January 2005. This CD-ROM allows users to produce a fully configurable range of interactive, multi-sensory electronic activities that deal with basic mathematical concepts. Dyslexic and dyscalculic learners may be slow to learn counting sequences – especially counting backwards – and will need additional practice in counting orally. With the same ‘look and feel' as Alphabet Track , Number Track has the added facility to record your own counting sequences and teaching resources include the facility to generate personalised worksheets to suit individual need.
All of the CD-ROMs are dual format. Each PC version is switch accessible and provides UK and US audio support. Teachers and parents can buy the CD-ROMs and workbooks from www.OneStopEducation.co.uk
